  Gym Guide

Like countless Americans, you’ve made a resolution to make 2008 the year of the hot bod. And like countless Americans, you are likely to fail unless you make your healthy lifestyle permanent. Step 1 could be just as simple as getting off the couch, but make sure you have somewhere to go, which is where we come in. Here is IN Los Angeles’ guide to the best gay-friendly gyms in town, bringing you one step closer to that kick-ass physique you’ve always dreamed of.

24-Hour Fitness

www.24hourfitness.com
Welcome to the best bargain (and most crowded gym) in boystown, where a top-tier membership grants you access to any 24-Hour facility. While the WeHo location shows its age, the newer Arclight Hollywood gym features better equipment, a basketball court, pool, sauna, spa and steam facilities.

Hollywood
6380 W. Sunset Blvd.

Long Beach
100 Oceangate, Plaza Level

West Hollywood
8612 Santa Monica Blvd.

Bally Total Fitness

www.ballyfitness.com
These four Ballys sport fewer WeHo stereotypes—which can be good or bad depending on what you want—but each facility contains loads of equipment and classes. There are many locations in the chain, but low pricing can create a cattle-call environment.

Hollywood
1628 N. El Centro Ave.

Long Beach
4438 E. Pacific Coast Hwy.

North Hollywood
13069 Victory Blvd.

Studio City
11315 Ventura Blvd.

Beverly Hills Health & Fitness

www.bhhf.com
This small, well-maintained neighborhood gym offers basic weight and cardio equipment, a Pilates studio and chiropractic facilities. Classes include yoga, martial arts, body sculpting, abs, kids classes and more. Open 24 hours Mon-Fri and late on weekends.

Beverly Hills 8301 Beverly Blvd.

Body Builders

www.bodybuildersgym.com
This beloved Silver Lake space has gone through some changes (like encouraging more women to join), but the gym still holds that gay-neighborhood feel. It’s housed in a two-story building with a boxing area and all the weights and cardio equipment you’ll need; unfortunately, no classes.

Silver Lake
2516 Hyperion Ave.

Crunch

www.crunch.com
The motto may be, “No judgments,” but all those beautiful bodies can be intimidating. That said, the West Hollywood location is a topnotch gym with great equipment and innovative classes like Power Abs, Lethal Weapon Boxing, Pole Dancing and Afro-Brazillian Drumming.

West Hollywood
8000 Sunset Blvd.

Easton Gym

www.eastongym.com
Both locations exude a friendly neighborhood feel with a mix of gay and straight professionals comprising the membership; Santa Monica is newer, so expect some fancier elements. Classes include yoga, kickboxing, spinning, body sculpting and more.

Los Angeles
8053 Beverly Blvd.

Santa Monica
1233 3rd St. Promenade

Equinox

www.equinoxfitness.com
The gym for people with money or heavily worn credit cards, Equinox’s facilities are A-list all the way: multiple weight and cardio rooms, spin room, Pilates and yoga studios, numerous classes, beautiful locker room, steam and sauna facilities, a full-service spa and kids club for parents. Check out the Century City location for an even more luxurious experience.

Pasadena

Santa Monica

West Hollywood

Gold’s Gym

www.goldsgym.com
Gold’s has a long history of welcoming body builders and fitness gurus, but in L.A., they’re also havens for homos. Locations provide fantastic facilities with a variety of classes, and membership rates are extremely competitive (which also means crowding during peak hours). Hollywood is the hottest spot for gay guys with buff bods.

Long Beach
345 Pine Ave.

North Hollywood
6233 Laurel Canyon Blvd.

Venice
360 Hampton Dr.

L.A. Fitness

www.lafitness.com
Basic equipment and classes, great prices and numerous locations. Gay clientele mingle at the Miracle Mile and Hollywood Boulevard gyms, while other locations in the city (Pasadena, Westwood, Universal City, and that one you pass on the way to LAX) are gay friendly, but not as open.

Hollywood
7021 Hollywood Blvd.

Miracle Mile
5950 Wilshire Blvd.

YMCA

www.ymcala.org
Following a recent renovation, the YMCA in Hollywood offers a tremendous facility at great membership rates—money that returns to the community through the Y’s various outreach programs. Gay membership is strong, while gym amenities include extensive weights and cardio equipment, a gravity room (Pilates-style equipment), racquetball and basketball courts, and numerous classes including yoga, spinning, martial arts, boxing, body pump and more.
