While it's the month for lovers and Cupid's arrows are flying
every which way, Southern California's gay women can't miss.
A myriad of options for the ladies—both single and
spoken for—from West Hollywood to Palm Springs makes
February a hot time for lesbians.
Blast From The Past
You don't have to say you love her, but after seeing Kirsten
Holly Smith channel lesbian legend Dusty Springfield, you
won't be able to help yourself! CSI star Jorja Fox co-produced
Stay Forever: The Life and Music of Dusty Springfield,
a one-woman show that chronicles Springfield's life from
British schoolgirl to international superstar. Smith delivers
spot-on renditions of Springfield's hits including “Son
of a Preacher Man,” “Wishin' and Hopin” and “I
Only Want to Be With You.” Relive some of the greatest
tunes of the 20th century with Smith's bluesy and heartfelt
ode to a legend. Feb. 7–24, Thursday-Saturday, 8
p.m., and Sunday at 7 p.m. Renberg Theatre, 1125 N. McCadden
Pl., Los Angeles. Tickets are $25. www.lagaycenter.org
Ladies Who Lunch
If landing the gal of your dreams in a dimly lit bar with
techno music thumping isn't your idea of a good time, then
mix it up over fine food at Women on a Roll's Single's
Rotation Lunch. Head over to the West Side for a pre-Valentine's
rotation luncheon at the charming Cantalini's Salerno Beach
Restaurant. The delectable Italian cuisine is guaranteed
to hit the spot and to get the ladies rubbing elbows. After
each course, one half of the room rotates seats, offering
plenty of options for window shopping. Valentine's prizes
will be handed out to lucky winners and who knows, somewhere
between the calamari appetizer and the crème brûlée,
you might just find your own Valentine. Feb. 10, 1-4 p.m.
at Cantalini's Salerno Beach Restaurant, 193 Culver Blvd.,
Playa Del Rey. $30 WOAR members; $35 otherwise. www.womenonaroll.com
The Perfect Storm
Steam up your Valentine's night with out lesbian playwright
Odalys Nanin, who celebrates the 10th anniversary celebration
of her hit play, Love Struck. What's hotter than “two
Latinas, one American and one Cuban in a hurricane of love,
lust and other devastation,” live on stage, as the
tagline to Love Struck reads. If a sexy romp of a romantic
comedy—complete with some nudity—isn't enough,
then the Valentine's Day opening night complete with a “Pink
Carpet,” a champagne reception and Cuban food, should
do the trick. A Doris Day/Rock Hudson-style comedy for
the lesbian set, Nanin and co-star Tricia Cruz, promise
to add some heat to your Valentine's celebration. Feb.
14 at 8 p.m. Macha Theatre, 1107 N. Kings Rd., WeHo. $45
in advance, $50 at the door. www.machatheatre.org
Guys May Not Make Passes ...
Get your hot nerd on at the Palm Springs second annual Lesbian
Book Festival! If there's nothing like the pages of a crisp
new lesbian pot boiler to get your intellectual juices
flowing, then head out to the desert for four days of the
top lesbian books and authors, beginning on Valentine's
Day with a poolside party and author meet-and-greet at
the gay gal hotspot, and co-sponsor of the event, the Casitas
Laquita Resort. Also sponsored by Bold Stroke Books, the
festival promises mixers, parties and signings with dozens
of authors, including Radclyffe and Curve luminaries Diane
and Jacob Anderson-Minshall. Feb. 14-17. www.casitaslaquita.com

bands for the best of Los Angeles' female musicians. Featuring

month. Like American Idol—only sexier—the audience
has its say and picks the winner. Also, expect giveaways
and plenty of girls in rocker gear! Stick around for the
