Kylie
Minogue has been diagnosed with breast cancer and had to cancel
her entire Australian tour, as well as the headlining spot
at the Glastonbury Festival. She's getting immediate treatment,
and released a statement saying she's "sorry to disappoint
her fans and hopefully all will work out fine." We wish
Kylie all the best and a full and speedy recovery.
Beck
took a page -- literally -- out his youth for his next video
"Girl." The singer told MTV, "The whole thing
is a tribute to Al Jaffee, the artist famous for creating
the last page "fold-ins" from MAD magazine."
The Motion Theory team helped Beck create the clip, which
finds numerous animated wall murals and giant paintings that
utilize the concept.
At
last year's MTV Europe awards, host Xzibit was overheard casting
doubts on Usher's heterosexuality. Usher (last linked with
Naomi Campbell) met a girl at that very event, with whom he's
been romantically linked. The girl? Eisha Brightwell -- now
the ex-fiancée of Alvin Joyner aka Xzibit. Ooh snap!.
Basement Jaxx have a new album coming, and new single "U
Don't Know Me" has caused a stir overseas. The dynamic
dance duo created a music video for it that's been relegated
to late-night-only airings, as the clip shows a woman impersonating
Queen Elizabeth II, who is seen groping a lap dancer, brawling,
drinking, and running from the police.
Coldplay
is the next super group to participate in the VH1 Storytellers
series. Singer Chris Martin settled into the show's format
of detailing each track, but admitted, "It's quite strange
to owe your entire life to four-and-a-half minutes of music."
This was prior to playing "Yellow," which he said
was named after the book nearest to him as it was being written
-- The Yellow Pages.
Gwen Stefani has enjoyed massive success with her first solo
record, and she hopes to do it all again. She's working on
another
release that should be out by the holidays. "Pharrell
and me are going in the studio again, and we just started
talking about doing a whole 'nother album with the tracks
that never made it on this record," said the singer.
Among the finished tracks are "Fine By You" (penned
with Linda Perry) and "Wonderful Life For Him" (which
features Depeche Mode's Martin Gore on guitar). In related
news, Stefani has designed an HP Photosmart digital camera
with the Harajuku Lovers moniker (it's the camera featured
in her "Hollaback Girl" video) and only 30,000 will
be made.
Garbage
has tapped "Sex Is Not The Enemy" as their next
single, and feisty singer Shirley Manson said the song may
appear fun on the surface, but is has a deeper inspiration.
"This song actually deals with my amazement at how the
Bush administration is really reactionary and clamping down
on gay rights and women's reproductive rights and civil liberties
in general," she told London's NME.
And finally, in the gossip department: Which U.S. female
pop star is tickled pink with her secret lesbian lover in
London? Whenever she's abroad, the star likes to get the party
started with her record company lover. Apparently they both
have a thing about bikers -- the pop star dates them, while
the SonyBMG girl has a copy of "Hard Dykes On Bykes"
stored on her laptop. Vroom vroom!
