Colt Studios has never let a journalist hang out on the set of a movie. However, Mickey Skee was fortunate enough to go on the set in San Francisco, getting a sneak peek at their upcoming video Beyond Perfect, which will be released in November.

Director Jerry Douglas is completing Beyond Perfect, his second video for Colt Studios, and his second movie within a year. This is a rare event for the perfectionist who usually takes a few years between videos for pre-production planning. Last year, his co-directing double feature with John Rutherford swept the GayVN Awards and Gay Chicago's Grabbys with their porn Western Buckle-Roos. Getting back in the saddle again with Colt so quickly was unexpected, but the director, who's turning 70 this year, said "I'm not getting any younger."

He had a detailed script about two very sexy men who are going to a couples counselor to help them with some sexual problems. The guys are played by blond former Falcon superstar Brad Patton (Chi Chi LaRue's Heaven to Hell) and dark-haired Jason Knightley (Kristen Bjorn's ParaShooter). They're perhaps the most intelligent and international duo in a porn vid in a long time, if not ever. Flying in from his home in Amsterdam, Brad is cute as a button, with a Kewpie doll head on the body of Hercules (the same role he played as a professional ice skater on the Disney on Ice tour!). Jason had traveled for more than two days to make it in from his South Africa home, where he's also a musician. Both of them are used to performing, but they weren't used to doing so much preparation for a porn video.

Brad's eyes brighten at the idea of mixing sex with acting. "I wasn't prepared for the amount of dialogue, but I love the script, I love the story." Even after two years as an exclusive with Falcon -- and doing some amazing sex scenes -- he didn't do much acting in videos and wasn't much more than a pretty face (and big dick) in videos. "I've been performing most of my life, so I was delighted to get a chance to do more."

Jason said he put the script next to his nightstand and kept thinking about his character. "Jerry gave me the tools to be the character, explaining in great detail my motivation, the way I look, the way I act," he said. "I'm not a drama queen, but I like drama."

The drama includes the couple recalling past events and it also includes a good share of comedy with legendary porn figure Joe Gage playing the non-sexual role of the couple's counselor, Dr. Scott. "Joe Gage was so much fun to work with as the counselor," said Brad. The story about relationships and monogamy is something that Brad could identify with, since he just broke up with his longtime German boyfriend due to jealousy issues. "I've not really had much experience with relationships, but I could identify with some of the issues brought up in this story."
