By Paul V.

Former Yaz vocalist Alison Moyet will be signing copies of her new CD at the Santa Monica Promenade Barnes & Noble store Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. Alf's new Voice disc is an eclectic collection of covers from the likes of Elvis Costello, Jacques Brel, Gershwin, and Burt Bacharach. Catch her live on CBS' Late Late Show on Oct. 10 ... Beastie Boys compile their best into a new collection called Solid Gold Hits, set for a Nov. 8 release, and Rhino Records just released The Best Of Jane's Addiction ... Dandy Warhols hit L.A.'s Avalon on Nov. 18 to support their Odditorium or Warlords of Mars CD, and John Fluevog Shoes just launched the Dandy Warhol Boot in their fall line, which hits stores by the end of October ... Early reports on the ultra-dancey Madonna album is that Madge gets sample-heavy on a few tracks. Along with the first single "Hung Up" (which samples Abba's "Gimme Gimme Gimme"), she samplesÊSeal's "Future Love Paradise," imaginatively titled "Future Lovers." At the premiere of hubby Guy Ritchie's movie Revolver, Madonna would only answer to the name Mrs. Ritchie, not Madonna. LaMadonna also scrapped her music video shoot with David La Chappelle ... Garbage has had some bumps in the road throughout their career, and the band is noncommittal about their future. They'll reportedly take "an indefinite break" now that their Australian tour is over ... A bunch of acts recently united to record a benefit single that is actually sort of an anti-benefit single. "Do They Know It's Halloween?" was born out of their frustration with other benefit songs' misguided, somewhat patronizing and Western-centric worldview. The acts participating are Peaches, Beck, The Arcade Fire, Sum 41, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Sonic Youth. The track is up at iTunes and other digital providers and hits retail Oct. 11. Proceeds will benefit UNICEF ... The latest 15 acts making the ballot for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame include Blondie, John Mellencamp, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Patti Smith Group, The Sex Pistols, The Stooges, and The J. Geils Band, amongst others ... Take a listen how opera and classic arias by Mozart, Handel and Puccini get electrified and updated with a rock twist onÊthe acclaimed new CD by the East Village Opera Company, in stores now. Check it all outÊat www.eastvillageoperacompany.com ... And finally, how awesome is the cast for the next season of VH1's Surreal Life? Music related stars like Whitesnake video vixen Tawny Kitaen, Poison guitarist C.C. DeVille, and Smashmouth singer Steve Harwell will be rooming with trannie actor Alexis Arquette and The Brady Bunch's Florence Henderson. Can you imagine the fights over mirrors, makeup, and curfews going on in that house?
