Into the Groove

By Paul V.

Singer, actress, ship captain? Bjørk hopes to be all of these things in the near future by taking a 10-week course to captain a 30-ton boat. "It has always been my ambition for my home to be a boat so that I can take it wherever I go," she said. "The course I'm taking tests whether I have the balls to do this." Better keep those swan-feathered flotation devices handy ... U2's Bono teamed with Alicia Keys on a song called "Don't Give Up (Africa)," an update of the Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush duet. The track is available on iTunes now, and all proceeds will benefit the Keep A Child Alive charity ... British pop star Robbie Williams is all over the news lately. First, he accepted undisclosed libel damages from tabloids that claimed he was gay. (Hell, horny boys all over America hope that on a daily basis!) British Sunday paper The People and Star/Hot Stars magazines agreed to publish prominent apologies to him and to pay damages and legal costs. The cover story ran in August 2004, claiming Williams had numerous homo encounters with strangers. In other Robbie news, he got in a tiff with rapper 50 Cent while the two were staying at the same hotel in Germany. Seems that Williams wanted to meet 50, but Fiddy "couldn't find the time in his schedule." Robbie dissed him over it, and 50 called him a "sucker."... The forthcoming ABBA box-set will be their final release, and any dreams of seeing the Swede-pop quartet reunite will never come true. Bjorn Ulvaeus said ABBA has no intention of following in the footsteps of other famous bands that have regrouped in recent years. "We believe that what we did then was pretty good, but we felt the energy running out toward the end of the 1970s. So we decided we won't do a Queen-type reunion." As for Madonna's use of their "Gimme Gimme Gimme" in her hit "Hung Up," he added "I see that as a tribute. We almost always say no to those things, but when we played the track and it was so catchy, Benny and I immediately said yes." ... More dish on the new -- and apparently very queer -- Peaches CD comes with word that Joan Jett is involved now, and Peaches even has a new track called "Hanky Code" -- a guide to the gay male back-pocket fetish colors. Plus, "Two Guys for Every Girl" is a gender-f**k play on the old Jan & Dean ditty. "Everybody fantasizes about the two-girl thing -- to hell! Guys gotta get sexy with each other!" preaches Peaches. You can catch Peaches live with John Waters at UCLA's Royce Hall on Saturday, Dec. 17 ... Happy holidays to all!
