The Brick Testament
www.thebricktestament.com
An obsessive project if ever there was, The Brick Testament retells biblical
stories ... in Legos. In ludicrously intricate detail, no less, with burnished,
oversaturated color and the best mod art direction this side of Gerry Anderson's
Thunderbirds. And this isn't the rosy bits, either -- chapters here include "Gang
Rape and Dismemberment," "Girls of Shiloh Abducted," and "Sixty-nine
Sons Slaughtered." Deranged, and it looks nice.
Gridskipper
www.gridskipper.com
Billing itself as "the decadent travel guide," this exquisitely
designed and unapologetically lush guide (from the team behind the hilarious
NYC gossip site Gawker) includes brilliantly swank tips on every uber-fashionable
destination you can think of, and some you might not have -- from Havana
to Fukuoka to Buenos Aires to Macau.
Queer Lounge at Sundance Film Festival
Park City, Utah
January 20-28
www.queerloungeonline.com
Yes, evidently there are plenty of queer films at Redford's indie film mecca,
a.k.a. Sundance, and Queer Lounge is your coffee-clatch central, with the inside
dope on what screenings and parties are mandatory, and more practical resources
(i.e. a free Net café). The titles sound promising (among them Kinky
Boots, Quinceanera, and The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveras).
Tana Hoy
www.tanahoy.com
It's doubtful that when this gay psychic-medium-to-the-stars' publicist called
us for coverage that he'd like to have him filed here, but when your client's
site includes "ectoplasmic photographs," you have to expect a
free-for-all. Skepticism aside, Tana's site says he's more credible than
Jeane Dixon, and his celeb clients (Sarah McLachlan and Jenny Jones, among
them), clearly believe. Find out for yourself at his 900-number, for only
$250 per 30-minute session (or join him on a Western Caribbean Cruise).
Taschen
www.taschen.com
You've likely seen countless Taschen books, whether you
know it or not. Covering everything from Tom of Finland
and '50s straight sexploitation pulp mags to the finest
in Japanese graphics and street art from Bombay to Havana,
with stop-overs covering every form of design (graphic,
interior, furniture) and plenty of exquisitely printed
art monographs so cheap they must be losing money on 'em,
they've got it all. We won't argue, because they sure as
hell liven up our coffee table.
