A Peek Inside Adult Video with Mickey Skee
Michael Lucas is definitely the unique showman of porn to
the outside world. He's been a liaison to the political elite
(Mrs. Kerry knows him well). He's involved with charities
of all kinds, and he regularly makes the gossip columns in
the Manhattan press. In a lot of ways, he's the frontman
-- the face of the gay porn world -- to the outside world,
a lot like Chi Chi LaRue was back in the 1990s and later
Karen Dior. And so, this tireless self promoter became the
big winner at the GayVN Awards, earning five much deserved
wins for his Dangerous Liaisons double-disk extravaganza
(which he has touted as the most expensive porn movie ever
made), and in the process gave the most ungracious, self-promoting
acceptance speech perhaps since Johnny Rey picked up his
award and simply said, "I deserve this," or when
Matt Gunther got a Hall of Fame award and said, "Finally,
you fuckers," or when best bisexual director winner
Anthony Rose went on to trash the production company who
hired him when he won his awards. Lucas, dressed as classy
as he always is, took the stage and gave a less-than-classy
speech, starting off with "Fuck you to all those who
didn't vote for me," and then went on to thank everyone
-- his cook, his maid, his limo driver -- except his cast
and crew. It was priceless to watch his rival Chi Chi LaRue
on stage behind him making shocked smirks through it all.
LaRue's Wrong Side of the Tracks double-disk feature tied
for best picture, and LaRue took the best director honors
of the evening. Well, whatever, Lucas deserved every trophy
he got, including the one for Boy George's music in that
video.
Gus Mattox won performer of the year, and cute perky Roman
Heart won best newcomer while Wrong Side of the Tracks star
Johnny Hazzard copped three awards for best actor, best sex
scene with (Tyler Riggz), and best solo performance. Go to
www.gayvn.com for the complete list of winners.
The show at Rage brought Brad Patton in all the way from
Amsterdam and Jerry Douglas from New York, as well as a big
contingent from San Francisco. The party afterward was held
again at the Abbey, and again the superstars of porn were
forced to stand outside for more than an hour as the obnoxious
wimpy crowd control people of the Abbey closed the guest
list until people lined up properly. So they wanted people
who waited half an hour and were up front to go to the end
of the line behind people who just got in line. Perhaps they
didn't know it, but when you have 70-year-old directors and
the elite of the porn business standing outside, they're
not going to wait very long. Many of the very biggest names
in the industry were being pushed by fans behind them and
most went home and gave up, yelling for someone to tell Chi
Chi they were there, but never made it in. And, even the
very recognizable Bruce Vilanch was kept waiting in line
until his name could be checked off; it was a most uncomfortable
thing to watch. Hopefully Chi Chi can find a friendlier place
to hold his parties next year. What happened to those sleazy
warehouses in the Valley where we used to have so much fun?
I know, too much work.
