This Just IN!

Dining and entertainment suggestions that might fly under your radar.

Best Reason to Be Starstruck

It's going to be a bumpy night on May 3. Tune in to Turner Classic Movies for Stardust: The Bette Davis Story, a fascinating warts-and-all documentary on the gifted, tempestuous actress with reflections from friends and costars like Jane Fonda and Ellen Burstyn.

Best Cheap Eats

Dive right in! Bombay Grill, the tiny Indian restaurant (located at 7306 1/4 Santa Monica Blvd., W. Hlywd) next to Trader Joe's, has seven tables, zero atmosphere, great prices, and superb Indian cuisine. We recommend the lamb saag, mushroom soup, and onion naan. They also do a thriving to-go business. For more information, call (323) 874-3366.

Best Reason to Go Online

Forget the Times and the Daily News. The first "must read" for smart Angelinos is Kevin Roderick's LAObserved.com. LAO delivers pithy comments with plenty of links, including one to IN's extensive coverage of the Sarah Chavez murder case.

Best Read in One Sitting

There's not much we can say about Dave White's hilarious memoir Exile in Guyville that the subtitle "How a Punk Rock Redneck Faggot Texan Moved to West Hollywood and Refused to Be Shiny and Happy" doesn't. Except you will laugh your ass off while reading it.

Best Reason to Rock

Ring them wedding bells! Sandra Bernhard, Margaret Cho, Alan Cumming, John Cameron Mitchell, and Lou Reed are among the queer and queer-friendly artists on the just-released WEDrock CD, the recording of last year's benefit concert for equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. All proceeds go to support Freedom to Marry's activities nationwide.

Best Balladeer

Mark Weigle's solo "One Less Dancer" stopped the show at the Los Angeles Gay Men's Chorus concert last March. Check out his solo CD Soul Sex before he joins the gay ambassadors of music on their tour of South America this September. For more information, see www.markweigle.com.

Best Reason to Cuddle on the Sofa

We love Lucy and Desi! Three feature films co-starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz -- America's most beloved comic couple -- make their long-awaited DVD debut in the boxed set The Lucy and Desi Collection. Included are 1954's The Long, Long Trailer, 1956's Forever, Darling, and the film that introduced the pair, 1940's Too Many Girls.

In Living Out Loud, Rev. Tommie Watkins Jr., a black gay ordained Baptist minister, discusses sexual orientation discrimination by the U.S. Navy and the black church congregation. With same-gender marriage, the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, and non-heterosexual clergy, this non-fiction portrayal deals with today'?s most vital issues. For more information, see www.twgllc.biz.

Best Star Turn

Whoo-ah! As lusty King Herod in a loony production of Salome, gay scribe Oscar Wilde's tale of passion, betrayal, and revenge, Al Pacino offers a master class in the art of commanding the stage. See it at the Wadsworth Theatre in Westwood through May 14. For tickets, visit www.WadsworthTheatre.com.
