Dining and entertainment suggestions that might fly under your radar.

DVD

It’s a wheel world and Cars scored a victory as the year’s highest-grossing animated film. With breathtaking animation and heartfelt voiceover work by Paul Newman and Owen Wilson, we learn that speed (not that kind) isn’t everything.

Prepare for a TV-watching marathon because our four favorite single gals of a certain age (Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia, natch) are back. The Golden Girls—The Complete Sixth Season features all 26 episodes, including the one with Blanche’s gay brother. Yes, cheesecake will be eaten!

With Saturday Night Live in the creative crapper, it’s a great time to watch the latest season of our favorite sketch comedy. Laugh at the latest outrageous shenanigans of zaftig Bubbles, trashy teen Vicky Pollard, and that only gay in the village, Dafydd in Little Britain: Complete Series Three.

Before Carrie and even before Mary, Anne Marie, played by the still-vivacious Marlo Thomas, made the world safe for single career gals, not to mention inspiring a generation of gay boys/wannabe fashionistas. Our fave episode of That Girl Season Two features our plucky heroine botching her one line in Gypsy with guest star Ethel Merman.

Music

Ooh la la! French film star-turned-chanteuse Arielle Dombasle’s new CD, C’est Si Bon, provides the perfect soundtrack for cocktail parties or relaxing bubblebaths. C’est maginifique!

When you buy the Hate Crime soundtrack, not only are you getting a fun eclectic mix of explosive dance hits like “Jesus by 45,” traditional Beethoven-inspired pieces and African tribal sounds, but you’re also helping to change the world. All proceeds from the CD’s sales are being donated to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs and the AIDS Committee of London.

Books

Craig. Daniel Craig. The blond Bond leaves us both shaken and stirred. So does gay filmmaker Laurent Bouzereau’s gorgeously illustrated coffee table tome The Art of Bond that looks at 40 years of the 007 phenomenon.
